The Video Editor is responsible for assembling the final product as a sequence consisting of shots from the raw camera footage, dialogue, sound effects and graphics. This is a key role in the post production process and the editor's skill determines the quality and delivery of the final product. The editor works closely with the Director and Producer to meet requirements. Receive a brief, and maybe an outline of footage and or a shot list, or screenplay.
Assemble all raw footage, with the camera shots either recorded or manually transferred onto high format video tape in preparation for inputting into the computer. Input uncut rushes and sound, and synchronize and store them into files on computer. Digitally cut the files to determine the sequence of the film and determining what is usable. Create a 'rough cut' of the program and determine the exact cutting for the next and final stages. Re order and tweak the content to ensure the logical sequencing and smooth running of the filmorvideo. Oversee the quality and progress of audio and vision engineering and editing. Consult with the director, producer and or client throughout the post production process. Familiarize oneself with the style of specific directors. Experiment with styles and techniques. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that works well with co workers, supervisors and customers. Must have a flexible schedule
